AMSTERDAM BY MOTORCYCLE

Park your motorcycle for a photo shoot at the monument on Dam Square or visit the unique Italian Motorcycle Museum at 4 Schepenbergweg. This museum is open on the last Saturday afternoon of the month. Feel like sitting outside a café in our capital city? You can park your motorcycle on the pavement in Amsterdam and you will not have to pay for parking. Just make sure you do not block the passageway.

DE RIJP ON YOUR MOTORCYCLE

The village of De Rijp lies between Zaandam and Alkmaar. As far back as the 17th century, Jan Adriaanszoon Leeghwater called it the most beautiful village in Holland. At that time, De Rijp was a prosperous harbour town where many residents earned a lot of money as whalers. If you walk through the village and see the beautifully restored houses that are over 400 years old, you will agree with him. The area around De Rijp, with its many winding dyke roads through the polder landscape, is also more than worth a visit.

BERGEN ON A MOTORCYCLE

If you are looking for the most beautiful stretch of dunes in our country, you should definitely take a trip to Bergen. This artists' village is located just above Alkmaar on the coast of North Holland and as you enter the village you will immediately notice that this is no ordinary holiday resort. Leafy avenues, beautiful thatched villas and a charming centre with small cafes, excellent restaurants and the best ice cream parlour in the western Netherlands. Complete your trip by riding from Bergen via Schoorl to Camperduin. Where the Honds Bossche Zeewering was until 2015, a completely new beach and dune area has now been created.

Motorcycle routes in North Holland

North Holland is a great province for a ride on your motorcycle. Beautiful roads along the coast, endless touring through vast polders and along winding dyke roads. Our three favourite routes:

1. TEXEL TOUR

This route starts at the ferry port in Den Helder, where you can take the TESO ferry to Texel in less than half an hour. You drive north along the Wadden Sea side of the island and after visiting the lighthouse, you drive back to the ferry port along the North Sea side of Texel. Along the way you can stop at a café in one of the island's seven villages or at a cosy beach pavilion.

2. NORTH-HOLLAND CENTRE ROUTE

This route begins and ends at the McDonald's carpool parking area along the A7 motorway near Hoorn. The central North Holland route takes you past the IJsselmeer towns of Hoorn, Medemblik and Enkhuizen. You will drive along part of the West Frisian Circular Dike, the oldest dike in the Netherlands. Wind your way through a beautiful polder landscape and enjoy the lovely West Frisian villages. You will drive via Schagen to the coast and then back to Hoorn via the Beemster polder.

3. NORTH HOLLAND DUNE ROUTE

This 172-kilometre route will take you along the most beautiful spots on the North Holland coast. You start at the car park of the Zwanenwater nature reserve near Callantsoog. You will pass through the coastal towns of Petten, Schoorl, Bergen and Egmond and then enter the Schermer polder east of Alkmaar. Your trip will take you back north via Heerhugowaard and Schagen. Afterwards, you will agree with us that the North Holland coastal and dune region is perhaps the most beautiful part of our west coast.

This beach bar, restaurant and café in Huisduinen (near Den Helder) has a terrace with a breathtaking view of the North Sea. You can lounge here on Sundays or have a picnic with your feet in the sand. Nogalwiedus is also open in winter!

Beach pavilion Paal 17 on the beach at De Koog on the island of Texel has been voted the best beach pavilion in the country several times. Rightly so, we think. In an atmospheric ambiance (spread over 2 floors!) you can enjoy delicious food and drinks with a view over the beach. You can park your motorcycle practically on the doorstep!

'T ANKER

Restaurant ’t Anker is located in the village of Kolhorn in West Friesland, the rural centre of North Holland. The area is a paradise for motorcyclists with many narrow dyke roads and beautiful views over the West Frisian polders. Kolhorn is a very picturesque village with many authentic houses. Enjoy a delicious lunch or a good cup of coffee on the terrace of ‘t Anker.

De Mastenbar is known for its location on the Compagnieshaven in Enkhuizen and its delicious fish and meat dishes! From the restaurant and (partially covered and heated) terrace you have a view of the beautiful IJsselmeer.

'T VEERHUIS LANDS END

The end of the world; that is the feeling you get when you sit down on the terrace of ‘t Veerhuis in Den Helder. This terrace is located next to the ferry harbour where the boat to Texel departs. You can enjoy the view of the North Sea and the Wadden Sea and order a cup of coffee or a full meal.
