Oostvaardersplassen on a motorcycle

There is no area in the whole of Europe that can compare to the Oostvaardersplassen. It is located in the south of Flevoland and is an area full of swamps, foxes, roe deer and dozens of bird species. Even the white-tailed eagle breeds there. This is what our country must have looked like thousands of years ago. You will understand that you cannot explore the nature reserve by motorcycle, but it is certainly worth visiting the Oostvaardersplassen Outdoor Centre at Kitsweg 1 in Lelystad. Here you can learn everything about the area and also take a short walk from the centre.

Bataviastad on a motorcycle

Certainly not suitable for all motorcyclists, but Bataviastad is a special shopping paradise with over a hundred outlet stores. Next to Bataviastad is the Bataviawerf. Here you will find a replica of a VOC ship and at the NISA are shipwrecks that came to the surface during the reclamation of Flevoland.

Schokland on a motorcycle

The former island of Schokland lies in the middle of the Noordoostpolder. Schokland is officially recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is an archaeological monument. You will find traces of human habitation dating back more than 10,000 years.

Motorcycle routes in Flevoland

Flevoland is a great province for a motorcycle ride. Beautiful roads along the coast, endless touring through vast polders and along winding dyke roads. Our three favourite routes:

1. Nieuwland route

Following the Nieuwlandroute will allow you to get to know the south of the province of Flevoland particularly well. The route takes you on your motorcycle past the Oostvaardersplassen nature reserve, where you will discover polder forests and vast meadows. You will ride along beautiful dyke roads and this route is particularly special in May when the rapeseed is in bloom.

2. A tour of Flevoland

This route of about 130 kilometres starts on Petuniastraat in Almere and takes you first to the south. Via Zeewolde you follow a stretch of the shore of Lake Veluwe, and then you drive via Biddinghuizen, Dronten and Swifterband to Lelystad. From Lelystad you will drive through a unique landscape with dyke roads and vast fields back to Almere.

3. Flevoland and the Hanseatic cities

This 227-kilometre route takes you from Lelystad straight through Flevoland to the old Hanseatic cities of Kampen, Zwolle and Deventer. You then head back north through the Veluwe, via Apeldoorn and Harderwijk, back to the province of Flevoland. You return to Lelystad via Biddinghuizen.

This restaurant is located in one of the most beautiful spots along Lake Veluwe near the town of Biddinghuizen. There are two terraces, one of which floats on Lake Veluwe. You can enjoy delicious snacks and drinks on the lounge sofas and a fantastic view.
