How is my motorbike insured if I rent it through MotoShare?
MotoShare is Europe's number one motorbike rental company. Renting out your motorbike via MotoShare is the best way to introduce other motorbike fans to your motorbike and earn an average of €500 per month.
MotoShare makes sure that renting out your motorbike is easy, safe and reliable. How do we do it? Read on to find out.
MotoShare's three guarantees for landlords
1. User verification
MotoShare verifies the validity of the motorcycle licence of anyone who wants to rent or rent out via the platform and checks whether the person registering has a history of fraud or damage. This check is carried out in the Fraud Information System Holland (FISH) by our insurance partner Combi Motors Verzekeringen.
2. Letting tenants get a face
We ask tenants to leave information about themselves and reviews about rental experiences via our platform. This way, your potential tenants get a face.
3. Collaboration with Combi Motors Insurance
When renting out between private individuals, your motorbike is not covered for damage under a regular insurance policy. If you rent out via MotoShare, your motorbike is insured via the MotoShare policy. This is important security for you and the renter. The MotoShare policy was developed by Combi Motors Verzekeringen. The Combi Motors team consists of passionate motorcyclists who have been arranging motorbike insurance for thousands of motorcyclists for over 25 years.
How does the MotoShare insurance work for landlords?
If you rent out your motorbike through MotoShare, it is always fully comprehensive (all-risk) insured up to a maximum of €25,000. The insurance also covers damage to property up to €2,500,000 and personal injury up to €6,100,000.
This means that renters are insured for damage caused to others, damage to their motorbike caused by fire, storm, theft, etc., and damage to their motorbike caused by falling, crashing, skidding or leaving the road. Even the renter's clothing and helmet are insured up to €750 per person per incident.
Excess for renters
Renters accept a damage risk of €1,500 when renting your motorbike. Renters must therefore pay for any damage up to that amount themselves. MotoShare guarantees this excess, so that renters do not have to leave this amount with you. Renters can reduce the excess to €1,000 or €700 by paying a small additional amount when renting your motorbike.
If you rent out your motorbike for several days, it is a condition of the insurance that it is locked between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. with an ART category 4 or 5 approved chain or U-lock. This also applies if your motorbike is stored indoors. If the motorbike cannot be parked inside, it must be parked out of sight of the public road and attached to a fixed object. This can also be an ART category 4 or 5 approved wall or ground anchor.
What is not insured if I rent out my motorbike through MotoShare?
The coverage of the motorcycle you rent through the MotoShare policy is very extensive. However, there are a number of issues and circumstances that are not insured if you rent your motorcycle through MotoShare. These can be found in the policy. We have listed the most important exceptions below.
- Damage to a sidecar or luggage trailer (connected or disconnected from the motorcycle).
- Damage to loose accessories or possessions of the driver.
- Damage caused by a driver who did not have permission to ride the motorbike.
- Damage to items being transported on your rented motorbike.
- Parts that have become defective, not as a result of a collision.
- Damage due to freezing or leaks in the engine.
- Damage or loss as a result of fraud.
- Damage as a result of misappropriation by a renter who did not identify himself at the start of the rental period or who subsequently turns out not to have a valid driving licence.
- Damage caused by weather conditions such as snow showers or frozen road surfaces.
- Damage caused under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication.
- Damage caused when the rented motorbike is used for giving driving lessons, leasing, during participation in speed or agility training or transport for payment (for example courier services).
- Damage that is already covered by another insurance policy (or arrangement such as a guarantee).
- Damage caused by or related to acts of war or nuclear reactions.
Moto scooters, sports motorbikes, sidecars or motorcycles with more than two wheels cannot be insured via the MotoShare policy.
Commercial damage or depreciation is not compensated.
If you do not cooperate with the insurer's request after filing a claim or if it appears that you provided the insurer with incorrect or incomplete information when taking out the insurance.
How can I claim damages if I rent out my motorbike?
In the unlikely event that damage is caused to your motorbike while it is being rented out, it is well insured through MotoShare and Combi Motors. In the event of damage less than the excess, we assume that you will resolve this with the renter. If you cannot resolve it, you can report this type of damage to MotoShare up to 48 hours after the end of the rental period. We will then recover the excess from the renter.
If damage is found to have been caused to the motorbike after the rental period that exceeds the selected excess, please send photos of the damage, the fully completed Handover Form and the European Accident Report Form to info@combimotors.nl.
If the damage exceeds the excess or your motorbike is stolen during the rental period, you must inform the insurer Combi Motors by telephone on 0031 – 172 -427035 within three days of the damage occurring. Make sure you take photos of the damage and always fill in a European accident report form together with the renter. You can send this – together with a completed transfer form – to info@combimotors.nl.
Hiring an expert in case of damage
The insurer may decide to hire an expert to determine the damage. You can also hire a claims adjuster yourself, in consultation with the insurer. In that case, you will pay the costs for the expert you hired yourself.
MotoShare and Combi Motors policy conditions
We advise you to carefully read the policy conditions of the MotoShare/Combi Motors policy.
