How is the motorbike insured if I rent it from MotoShare?

You don't need to own a motorcycle to be able to ride one. On MotoShare you can choose from hundreds of motorcycles. Choose the ideal motorcycle that suits your wishes, your dreams or the journey you want to take. From as little as €40 a day, you can ride a beautiful motorcycle belonging to a fellow motorcycle enthusiast who would love to introduce you to his or her bike.

Rent with confidence via MotoShare

Renting a motorbike via the MotoShare platform means choosing from all types and price ranges. At MotoShare you choose your ideal motorbike, offered by both private individuals and motorbike dealers. MotoShare not only offers an extensive choice, but also the certainty that the motorbike of your choice is well insured.

Always fully insured

If you rent a motorbike through MotoShare, it is fully comprehensive insurance (All Risk). This comprehensive motorbike insurance is included in the rental price of all motorbikes on MotoShare.

The person renting the bike (which is only the person listed on the transfer form) is insured in all EU member states, Norway, Serbia, Switzerland and Iceland for:

  • Damage caused to another person.
  • Damage caused by fire, storm and theft.
  • Damage caused by ‘external causes’ such as collisions, skidding, falling, driving off the road and falling into water.
  • Damage to clothing or helmet up to a maximum of €750 per person per event.

MotoShare and Combi Motors Insurance

MotoShare has chosen Combi Motors Verzekeringen as its partner to insure the motorbikes during the rental period. Combi Motors has been arranging motorcycle insurance for thousands of customers for more than 25 years. The Combi Motors team consists of passionate motorcyclists who know exactly how important it is for you to be well insured when you ride your motorbike.

The small print

Of course, the insurance also comes with conditions that are included in the rental price of the motorbike. We have summarised these for you below.

  • The MotoShare insurance comes with an excess of €1,500. You never have to leave this amount as a deposit when you rent a motorbike through MotoShare and you can lower the excess to €1,000 or €700.
  • Has any damage occurred during the rental period? Assess with the landlord whether this damage is lower or higher than the excess. If it is lower, you must resolve the damage with the landlord.
  • If the damage exceeds the excess, the lessor has the right to report this up to 72 hours after the end of the rental period.
  • During a rental period, the motorbike you have rented must be parked in a securely locked area between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. with an ART category 4 or 5 lock. If it is not possible to store the motorbike in a locked area, the motorbike must be secured with a category 4 or 5 ART chain or U-lock to a category 4 or 5 approved wall or floor anchor or to an immovable object (e.g. a lamppost). The owner of the motorbike will hand you the locks before the start of the rental period.

What is not insured if I rent a motorbike through MotoShare

The coverage of the motorbike that you rent through the MotoShare policy is very extensive. However, there are a number of things and circumstances that are not insured. These can be found in the policy. We have listed the most important ones below.

  • Damage to a sidecar or luggage trailer (connected to or disconnected from the motorbike).
  • Damage to loose accessories or possessions of the driver.
  • Damage caused by a driver who did not have permission to ride the motorbike.
  • Damage to items transported on the rented motorbike.
  • Parts that have become defective, not as a result of a collision.
  • Damage due to freezing or leaking of the engine.
  • Damage or loss as a result of fraud.
  • Damage caused by weather conditions such as snow showers or frozen road surfaces.
  • Damage caused under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication.
  • Damage caused when the rented motorbike is used for giving driving lessons, leasing, during participation in speed or agility training or transport for payment (for example courier services).
  • Damage that is already covered by another insurance of the owner (or arrangement such as warranty).
  • Damage caused by or related to acts of war or nuclear reactions.
  • Injury you cause to others is insured. Damage to your own body is not.

Mopeds, sports motorbikes, sidecars or motorbikes with more than two wheels cannot be insured through the MotoShare policy.

If you do not cooperate with the insurer's request after filing a claim or if it appears that you provided the insurer with incorrect or incomplete information when taking out the insurance, the policy may be declared invalid.

What do you do in case of damage if you rent a motorbike?

Did you rent from a private owner through MotoShare and did an accident or fall result in damage? Call 020 36 99 863 and use the menu to contact Combi Motors Verzekeringen.

If the damage is less than the excess, we expect you to settle the damage with the rental company. If that fails, Combi Motors can make a judgement. MotoShare will charge you €40 in administration costs for this.

What do you do if you break down?

If you break down while riding the motorbike, ask the owner if he is a member of a roadside assistance service. If not, you can use the Roadguard roadside assistance service. Roadguard can be reached 24 hours a day (055 579 8096). Costs will be charged to the owner or to you if the damage was caused by you as the renter. If you rented from a motorcycle shop through MotoShare, always contact that shop to organise roadside assistance.
