You don't see them often, but if you see a Buell, it's worth a second look. The winged horse brand and a motorcycle with balls. Buell is a brand that is now fully owned by Harley Davidson. It has the same characteristics, but is packaged in a sportier version than the Harley Davidson itself.
History of Buell
Buell has an interesting history. It all began when Erik Buell, as an employee of Harley Davidson, assembled engine blocks.
Erik Buell was driven to give his own twist to a motorcycle. In 1983, Buell installed his own engine in his own design of motorcycle: the Buell RW750. This motorcycle was designed with the goal of winning the AMA F1 motorcycle championship. Two years after the first race, this championship was cancelled. After the AMA F1 motorcycle championship was cancelled, Buell focused on developing street motorcycles. Implementing the Harley Davidson engine in a sporty model proved to be a success. Buell and Davidson worked closely together.
Since 1998, Buell has been a 100% subsidiary of Harley Davidson.
Why ride a Buell
If you ask Buell riders why they chose this brand, you get different answers. We have listed the most frequently mentioned reasons:
1. Unique
A heavy Harley engine in a sporty motorcycle. The real Harley enthusiast will literally and figuratively get along well with this. More of a hum than a scream, the characteristics of a Harley are maintained.
2. Quality
Where Erik Buell turned his work into a hobby, you can see this passion reflected in the quality of the motorcycle.
3. Road holding
Because a Buell is heavier and wider than the average sports motorcycle, the centre of gravity is lower. This ensures stable road holding that many motorcyclists swear by.
4. Exclusive
The last production run took place in 2011, with only 100 motorcycles being made. Owners of a Buell should therefore count themselves lucky. Buell motorcycles have become real collector's items.
The most popular Buell models
