De GSX-8R is ontwikkeld volgens het ‘The New Standard of Sport’-principe. Het doel was duidelijk: toegankelijke performance en maximaal rijplezier combineren met aantrekkelijke Supersport-styling. De motorfiets is geschikt voor uiteenlopende ritten, van een korte trip door de stad tot een opwindende rit over kronkelende bergwegen – mét of zónder passagier. De lagere, meer voorwaartse plaatsing van het clip-on stuur van gesmeed aluminium zorgt ervoor dat de rijder over het stuur kan leunen, helemaal klaar voor actie. Dit maakt sportieve ritten des te leuker.
