Basic equipment for every motorcyclist

As a motorcyclist, you need more than just a motorbike. Good motorcycle gear is essential for safe motorcycling. The right motorcycle gear protects you in the event of a crash and ensures that you can ride comfortably in all weather conditions. What does good basic equipment for every motorcyclist consist of? We will tell you more.

It starts with the basics

In the Netherlands, protective motorcycle gear is not mandatory, with the exception of a helmet. However, riding without proper protection is strongly discouraged. The consequences of a crash without suitable clothing – even at low speeds – can be disastrous. It is therefore important not to skimp on good basic equipment.

Tips for purchasing the right basic equipment

Buying a motorcycle jacket. What should I look out for?

Motorcycle jackets are available in leather or textile. Leather jackets offer excellent protection in the event of a fall, but are less resistant to rain. Textile jackets are more versatile and offer better protection against various weather conditions. When purchasing, look for protectors at the shoulders, back and elbows for extra safety.

Buying motorcycle trousers. What is important?

The motorcycle helmet is the only mandatory piece of equipment. Choose a helmet with an ECE 22.05 quality mark. It is important that the helmet fits well and does not slip. Also pay attention to the material and the lifespan of the helmet.

Hearing protection. Is that really necessary?

Wind noise can cause hearing damage. Therefore, wear earplugs when riding. Standard earplugs are available from just a few euros. For optimal comfort and protection, customised earplugs such as Pluggerz are an excellent choice.

Three types of boots. Which should I choose?

Motorbike boots protect your feet and ankles. You can choose from sports boots, touring boots and enduro boots. For a more casual look, biker shoes are an alternative, but make sure the laces don't get caught in the pedals.

Motorcycle gloves? Fit is everything!

Motorcycle gloves should fit snugly without pinching. Choose leather gloves for comfort or textile gloves for waterproofing. Gloves with extra protection on the knuckles and little fingers offer extra safety in case of a fall.

Complete basic equipment

Complete basic equipment for every motorcyclist consists of a motorcycle jacket, trousers, helmet, boots and gloves. Choose carefully and invest in your safety. Happy shopping!
